Holiday Cheer Without Loosing Your Deposit

The holiday season is here! Fairy lights are twinkling, festive scents fill the air, and everyone's getting ready to make their homes feel a little more magical. But if you're renting, decorating can be tricky. No one wants to lose their deposit over a few extra command hooks or a stray bit of tape!

Luckily, There are plenty of rental friendly ways to make your space merry and bright, without leaving a single mark behind.

1. Go Big on Fairy Lights

Fairy lights are the quickest way to bring a festive glow to any home. Drape them over shelves, curtain rails, or mirrors for an instant cosy vibe. Use removable adhesive hooks or clips instead of nails, they come off cleanly when January rolls around.

If you're tight on sockets, try a battery-powered LED strings, they are safer and easier to move around.

2. Think Small (Tree-wise)

Not every flat has room for a 6-foot tree, and that's okay! a mini tree on a table or windowsill can be just as festive If you're feeling creative, try a "wall tree". Arrange string lights or greenery in the shape of a tree on your wall using removable strips.

Add a few ornaments and voila, instant Christmas charm without the clutter!

3. Create a Festive Scent

Nothing says "Holiday season" quite like the smell of cinnamon and pine. Use scented candles, wax melts or essential oil diffusers to bring those cosy aromas into your home.

Tip: If candles aren't allowed in your building, go for a plug in diffuser or stove-simmered potpourri with orange and cloves.

4. Decorate What You've Got

You don't need to buy loads of new decor, simply add festive touches to what's already there.

  • -Wrap a bit of tinsel around a curtain pole
  • -Swap out cushion covers for red or gold ones
  • -Hang baubles on indoor plants or light fixtures

It is about layering little moments of cheer rather than a full overhall.

5. Keep It Damage Free

When decorating, avoid anything that might leave a mark, no nails, heavy adhesives or staples.

Instead use:

  • -Command strips for hanging decorations
  • -Blu tack or poster putty for light weight items
  • -Over-the-door hooks or wreaths

You'll save yourself a clean up (and your deposit) when it is time to pack everything away.

6. Add Some DIY Magic

If you love crafts, try making your own decorations. Cut paper snowflakes, string together popcorn garlands, or make a wreath from twigs and ribbons. It's eco-friendly, fun, and gives your home a personal touch.

7. Don't Forget the Vibes

Put on your favourite festive playlist, make a hot chocolate, and enjoy it all! Decorating is as much about the feeling as it is about the look... and a sparkle goes a long way in brightening up the winter evenings!

Happy Holidays from Metro Homes!
